You can read them aloud and pretend that you are Doug Batchlor! The significance of instruction on child guidance is best understood as we note the important place it takes in the Word of God and the frequent and detailed references to the subject in the spirit of prophecy writings.
In her several books, but more particularly in the articles on practical Christian living which appeared from week to week in the various journals of the denomination, Mrs. White set forth a wealth of counsel to parents. In addition to this, she addressed to various families hundreds of personal testimonies in which she dealt specifically with the problems they faced. In these articles and personal testimonies she described the principles which should guide parents, and the procedures they should follow as they were kept before her in vision.
In her later years Mrs. Only the thoughtful and prayerful perusal of the significant counsels of this volume can reveal the tremendous and far-reaching influence of training the child properly as god has placed the responsibility with parents. The fact that Ellen White was the mother of four enabled her to set forth in an understanding and sympathetic manner the instruction imparted to her.
Her experience in the practical application of the principles she has set before others begets confidence in the heart of the reader. All the E. White sources, published and unpublished, have been drawn upon in preparing child guidance.
Full source credits appear at the close of each chapter. Because the content of this volume has been brought together from a number of sources written over a period of seventy years, there occasionally occurs an unavoidable break in thought and manner of address as the several statements are linked together in their natural subject sequence.
The compilers were limited in their work to the selecting and arranging of the various statements and to the supplying of headings. Child guidance was prepared under the direction of the board of trustees of the Ellen G. White publications in their offices in Washington, D. The work was done in harmony with Mrs. The need for this volume is great. Eternal interests are at stake.
The detailed counsels on discipline, character building, and physical and spiritual education will be treasured by every thoughtful parent. White books of counsel to parents and youth, may serve to guide fathers and mothers in their most important work is the sincere wish of the publishers and the trustees of the Ellen G. White Estate. What is it? The study guide is a set of simple guide sheets prepared under the direction of the Ellen G.
This volume by Mrs. White consists of nineteen sections, as does the matching study guide. The answer sheet is provided for checking purposes, thus enabling the reader to be both student and teacher. The reader corrects his own quiz sheet.
Each student is encouraged, however, to read the assignment carefully and to complete the guide sheet before referring to the answers. This simple method of approach should prove to be an interesting and profitable way to study Child Guidance. Who may use it? The guide sheets may be used by individual adults, by husband and wife, by prospective homemakers in the college classroom, by teenagers in our academies, by church study groups, and by other groups organized for study purposes.
May God help every student who uses these guide sheets to a better understanding of the principles of successful parenthood, homemaking, and child guidance. The companion book, The Adventist Home, also by Ellen White, is recommended to all parents and prospective parents and college students interested in child psychology.
The Board of Trustees Ellen G. Extraordinary things can occur. One might find oneself blinded on the road to Damascus, and unbidden recollections of old sins can continue to prick the conscious despite our complete, yet unmerited forgiveness by God like thorns in the flesh.
It is Proverbs Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. This direction is indicated by the other 23, verses in the Bible.
A proper life is one of worship, service, and obedience to the commands of God. This serves to compliment scripture by adapting timeless Biblical strategies to the tactical care and nurture of humanity in the context of their short sojourn on a fallen planet.
The world that Ellen G. White inhabited was not a precise match for the less scientifically advanced ancient Near East of the Patriarchs and Prophets Jesus Himself was a prophet as well.
The epoch that Ellen G. White labored so assiduously to instruct was an improvement over the licentious and theologically suspect times that Franklin inhabited. Regular attendance at church, faithful tithes and offerings, and the forsaking of make-up, jewelry, and unclean foods are important, but these are all just superficial signs of conformance with the law of God. They could be likened to the whiting on a sepulcher.
Satan, a sagacious media mogul, has managed here at the end of the age like a roaring lion to taint the inward parts of many who are ostensibly Christian. An urgent need to remedy this regrettable increase in hypocrisy serves to enhance, rather than to marginalize the relevance of Ellen G.
They all serve as antidotes to the poisonous atmosphere of the Twenty-first Century. What are your kids watching? What are they listening to? And while we are on the topic, what are you watching and listening to?
As no parent or teacher is perfect, however, the realization of these perfect intentions should the opportunity present itself will be thwarted by reality. Perfection remains, nevertheless, an acceptable goal for everyone. The inevitable frustration of this goal will present many opportunities for the exercise of patience and forgiveness.
The Adventist Home Foreword The Adventist home is a home where Seventh-day Adventist standards and practices are lived and taught, a place to which Seventh-day Adventist fathers and mothers are commissioned by Christ to go and make Christians of the members of their own households. And in order to perform that task well, Seventh-day Adventist parents are looking for all the help they can possibly find. White has written much and very valuable counsel for parents. She has touched upon every phase of the home, and offers specific instruction on many of the problems which give so much concern to thoughtful and often anxious parents today. Here are the answers to your many questions, the words of wisdom from the heavenly Father. White writings penned through seven decades, but especially from the thousands of E.
