Living in Puerto Rico , Uncategorized The marbete is the sticker that all vehicles must have in order to operate legally on Puerto Rico roads. Since the enactment of Law of , better known as the Compulsory Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Act, vehicle owners in Puerto Rico are required by Law to purchase auto liability insurance coverage every year.
The Puerto Rico Department of Motor Vehicles should send renewal notices every year by mail; they seldom do. Print all copies.
Your renewal notice will only be available online days prior to expiration date as the Department of Motor Vehicles will want to make sure to add tickets and fines, if any. Vehicles registered under a corporation, will not be available in the online system. Please keep a copy of the insurance form they will provide for this so you can remember the company you chose.
This will need to be done next day after expiration of prior marbete 1st day of the month , not before. Only the current marbete sticker can be on the side of the windshield by Law. Please note, if you have outstanding tickets, you will have to pay them in order to renew. Tickets and fines collect surcharges and interests.
